Musica Copa 2016 Announced

Posted by KIKOFF | 15th January 2016

Switching to a new date for one season only, the music industry’s beloved charity 5-a‐side football tournament, Musica Copa returns to Marrickville’s KIKOFF soccer centre on Friday 5th February 2016, kicking goals from 2-10pm with a new public tournament the following day from 10am-5pm.

Participation levels are at an all-‐time high and to cope with demand, the ever-‐expanding social enterprise has increased to 20 teams (up from 16 teams last season and 12 teams in 2013). Additionally, thanks to our fantastic sponsors – Jack Daniels, Red Bull Music Academy, Smirnoff and Void – the stakes couldn’t be higher as we can confirm a whopping $14,000 in prize money has been donated for the top 4 finishing teams to win for their nominated charities. The full list of charities involved can be found here: www.musicacopa.com/charities

Reading like a who’s-who of the Australian music industry, Musica Copa represents market leaders in their  field, turning on their out of office for a day of fundraising and football. This years teams range from multi award-wining independent and major record labels, to half a dozen premier booking agencies, a national touring festival, influential music TV, radio and online publications,  music  culture  tastemakers  and  a  global digital  streaming service. The Loop’s Channel 11 presenter Scott Tweedie returns as Musica Copa’s exclusive MC and he’ll be keeping the star players and VIP guests on their toes with all the latest news throughout the day. Previous A-list artists to have played Musica Copa include Bag Raiders, Motez, Kilter, What So Not, Just A Gent, The Meeting Tree, Basenji, Carmada, Yolanda Be Cool, Krewella, Olympic Ayres, JAWZ, Crooked Colours, Motorik Vibe Council, The Herd, Elk Road, Fishing and Alex Burnett.

NEW for 2016 is the mandatory inclusion of 2 females for every 8-player squad. Also NEW is the highly anticipated Beer and Burger Bar hosted by the legends at Young Henrys and Mary’s. Musica Copa is all about delicious food and ice-cold drinks.

Plus for the first time ever (and in conjunction with KIKOFF Fraser Park) we are opening the tournament up to the public on Saturday 6th February as we present Musica Copa El Publico. Whilst the music industry attends our invitational tournament on the Friday, local 5-a-side teams can enter the following day for the chance to win their own bumper cash prize and raise even more money for charity.

Musica Copa is organised by UNDR Ctrl's Paul Stix and Purple Sneakers' Martin Novosel.
