Musica Copa 2014 Announced

Posted by KIKOFF | 28th October 2014

Following last year’s hugely successful inaugural event, Musica Copa returns bigger than ever to Marrickville’s KIKOFF Fraser Park, on Friday 5th December 2014. To cope with demand, the tournament has expanded to 16 teams, whilst switching to a more crowd-friendly Friday evening format.

Musica Copa is thrilled to be partnering with Electronic Music Conference(EMC) for a second successive year, and thanks to our fantastic sponsors – Bacardi, Magners Cider, Red Bull Music Academy and Budweiser Made For Music, all 16 teams (128 players in all) shall be competing for a whopping$12,000 in prize money, with the top 3 teams each taking home a giant cheque for their respective nominated charity. The stakes have never been higher, and as Sir Alex Ferguson once famously said, “it’s squeaky bum time”.Indeed it is. Check out this year’s chosen charities here:

Outplaying the cream of Australia’s music industry, last year’s event saw revered dance label Sweat It Out take home the Championship Trophy - but can they repeat the feat? Looking to knock them off the top spot and returning for a second season are (in alphabetical order): Elefant Traks x Umbrella, FBi Radio, Future Classic, inthemix, Ministry Of Sound x Mustard Music, Mushroom Group, OneLove and Pulse Radio. They’ll be joined by new summer signings Audiopaxx, Falcona, MAKER (joining Sweat It Out), MTV, Red Bull Music Academy, Sony, UNDR ctrl and Universal.

Team captains are keeping their squads close to their chests, but we can exclusively reveal that big name players including Bag Raiders, Motez, Touch Sensitive, Kilter, Emoh Instead (What So Not), Just A Gent, Basenji, Yahtzel, Yolanda Be Cool, L D R U, Olympic Ayres, Van She, Hayden James, JAWZ, Crooked Colours, Motorik Vibe Council, The Herd, Nicky Night Time, Joyride, Jackie Onassis and Alex Burnett are all expected to play with many more A-listers yet to be announced. Your commentator for the day will be The Loop’s Channel 11 presenter Scott Tweedie, plus a festival-sized DJ line-up will be revealed closer to the event.

“As far as music industry events go, last year’s Musica Copa brought something fresh and exciting to the often tiresome and clichéd format” state co-founders Paul Stix (UNDR ctrl) and Martin Novosel (Purple Sneakers, Boundary Sounds). This year we’re taking it up a level, with more teams, improved infrastructure, and more to be donated to charity – demonstrating that the music industry can not only have fun, but give back to the community whilst doing so”.

This year fans will be able to experience Musica Copa first hand, with organisers offering the chance for two lucky winners to hang out with the stars, joining in for a full day of behind the scenes footy, music and beers, plus some amazing merchandise, festival tickets, headphones and more.

For more information on how to enter, plus for your chance to win runners-up VIP days out at Musica Copa, head to www.musicacopa.com and register.
