FPA Advanced Development Squads

Posted by Paul Mulligan | 28th May 2019

What are they, how do they work?

What a brilliant 1st year of coaching for Football Pathway Australia down at Kikoff Harbord in 2019.

It all began with a trial process back in January.  Our objective - to find players who had the right attitude, a desire to learn and the determination required to push themselves to reach their full football potential and join our 25 week Advanced Development Squads (ADS) program.

The program started early February 2019 and the first “pre-season” term of 10 weeks got underway.

After Easter, our 15-week in season term commenced.

We have 3 age groups for Advanced Development Squads at Kikoff Harbord.

  • 48 U8’s
  • 75 U8-10
  • 52 u11-13

We also conduct development training from U6.

What happens in our sessions?

  • Plenty of games - This is where tactical elements of the game are constantly coached.
  • Technical football skills - Fine tuning those important football skills.
  • FitnessWe also touch on physical aspects so the players are athletic, this is an important area if players are to push on to higher levels.
  • Game Mindset - We constantly discuss the psychological parts of the game, and game mindset.  We want a winning but fair mentality, and players willing to take responsibility on and off the pitch.
  • FUN - We know players need to have FUN at sessions. This creates the best learning environment, and our coaches create this in every single session.

We are aware our players will be trialling to play with Skill Acquisition Programs (SAP) and to play Representative Football. Our goal is to help players achieve this.

Our programs, have amazing coaches who will work to help players be noticed at trials so they can play at as high a level as possible.

We cannot wait to keep growing and reaching more committed young footballers in our up-coming “Off-Season”, “Pre-Season” and “In-Season” Programs.
